Some of the Reports and Comments from 2005
“I have found the placements both challenging and rewarding. I have much enjoyed taking opportunities to be part of a large range of activities, involving age groups of 4-16.”
Matthew at The Wire Project
“Two weeks as a youth leader was at times exciting and others exhausting. I have learnt a lot more about myself as I had to respond to different situations, and I have also learnt new skills.”
Hannah working with holiday clubs at St. Catherine’s and Church Centre in Wakefield where, among other things, she performed and taught a Street Dance – and had to deal with conflicts between young people.
Emily was to be heavily involved with the Summer of Love (SoL) Festival on Portland (16th-21st Aug). Emily would assist The Ripple Effect with its support of young people who were running a children’s holiday club and work with young people in the community in projects of social action, but participation was handicapped by a severe ear infection. She returned to help with a camping trip to Green belt. She was busily engaged with the sorts of tasks and met a wide range of people from different churches on Portland. Her final comment:
“I had a really good time”.
Archie was with Essex Association of Boys’ Clubs and helped the staff with the Summer Camp and in his second week toured varied youth clubs in Essex.
“I have valued my time with the EABC highly, and it has been very enjoyable, I have taken part in many activities which I had not previously done. I also think that spending a week on the summer camp with other young people was very beneficial, it has helped my understanding of young people greatly. The whole fortnight was very worthwhile.”
James at Community Bryncynon Strategy in South Wales working alongside the children and Youth Team. James writes:-
“I have actually thoroughly enjoyed my time here, despite originally being worried about the prospects. I have been very happy with the way the people at the Strategy and those in the community have welcomed me and made my stay here very easy indeed. I have been looked after extremely well and staying with Kris was excellent.
The work that I have been assigned to do has all been good and the agenda was well put together to enable me to see most of the things that the Strategy does in the community. I have to say that I most enjoyed working with the youth and younger children. It was just so good to have a laugh with them.
I feel as though I have worked to the best of my ability and hope that my time here has been helpful to the Strategy and maybe even to the community to some extent. I am even thinking about coming back again some time in the future but we’ll just have to see how things work out.
All in all, I have had a great time here. I think the Bryncynon Strategy is doing a wonderful job and my short time here has improved my awareness of different lifestyles and developed me as a person.”
