Michael Wernham - Youth Federation in South Wirral
The Tasks: As well as helping with general office administration in the Federation, where he had worked last year, Michael helped yet again with the Summer Camp which was more demanding than ever this year due to gales demolishing the tents midway through the week! As a consequence, they ended up sleeping in a Church hall.
Michael’s Report: The camp did not fully go to plan. However, this to me added more drama and excitement to the camp which is what children look for in life. The experience that we received as a group of helpers really made us think back to our own childhood and think of the fun we had on our trips. The camp overall, to me, was another great success. The children had a great time and the workers all had positive feedback.
Overall my time with the Youth Federation has been one of my favourite periods of time in my life. I have gained extremely good experiences and even better friends whom I shall be in contact with, I hope, for many years. I would finally like to thank everyone involved at the Youth Federation for making me feel so welcome and I certainly advise any other person in my position to certainly take the placement at the Fed, you are guaranteed a laugh a minute with the welcoming people that there are there.
Manager’s Report: Michael was most supportive throughout the crisis and his great good humour and practical help were appreciated by staff and young people alike. The camp was especially tiring but nothing was ever too much trouble. Michael is very popular with our young volunteers and the children taking part, many from extremely disadvantaged backgrounds. He shows maturity beyond his years and is an excellent role model.
