Hannah Partridge - Newquay Christian Centre
When I arrived in Newquay two weeks ago, I really didn't know what to expect! I was promptly flung headlong into an environment where I knew no one and no one knew me, and I loved every second! Over the last two weeks I have got stuck into finding out what makes Newquay Christian Centre tick. I have found myself up to my ears in glitter, sparkly paper and glue one minute and mopping floors at midnight the next!
The opportunities presented to me have been diverse and truly amazing. I have formed some really strong friendships with people from all walks of life and have listened with wonder to how far they have come with the help of people at NCC. I have seen beyond the reach of my own little world into a diverse and exciting world where people like me can really make a difference in other people's lives. I have learnt that leadership is not about marching at the front with a big flag. It is about listening to and enabling those at the back so that they can really go somewhere. I have learnt that the biggest achievements are not usually tangible and recognised by all. They are normally the small things deep within an individual.
I have learnt a lot about myself over the last two weeks. The most important thing that I have learnt is that however impressive my life might look on paper, it doesn't mean much unless it is backed up by something spiritually substantial. I have learnt a lot about my own personal qualities and what I am truly capable of. If someone had told me two weeks ago that I would stand up in front of 30 young people my age and speak to them about my own shortcomings, I would never have believed them! I now have much more confidence in my own abilities. I have discovered my own planning and organisational skills and my ability to work in a team and with young people. I am so grateful for the unique opportunities I have been given and can't wait for next year!
