The Fourth Leadership Day
Creating the Truetube video
The fourth School Leadership Day was held on 11 September at Paddington Arts. Twenty-five School Fellows gathered for a day of presentations, activities and discussion. Emma Watson-Mack and Jason Chaffer devised a full and stimulating programme. In addition, they spoke to the Fellows about the opportunities that are available through the Rank Fellowship. Fred Packard, Chairman of The Rank Foundation, spoke to the Fellows, while Stephen Day chaired a panel which discussed the idea of service abroad and leadership in an Arab context. A full report of the day can be found here
A team from Truetube, led by Bryony Stokes, developed ideas about leadership and enabled the School Fellows to put together an excellent video for the Truetube site. This is entitled "Can One Person Make A Difference" and it can be seen here.
The Steering Committee meeting on 9 September had a great deal to discuss: the five year review plans, the Legal Issues workshop and the Leadership Day, plans for the Manchester Charities Evening, and intiatives at a regional and international level.
Jason Chaffer chaired the meeting with his customary deftness and the minutes of a very positive and broad-ranging discussion can be read here .
:The Manchester Charities Evening on 20 November at the Museum of Science and Industry will have fifteen charities present, both large and small. It will be a great opportunity for the smaller charities within the Rank Family to network and to seek advice on a number of aspects of their operation.

The Ellesmere Youth Project from Sheffield will be one of the smaller projects represented. This is a small, community based project working in the Burngreave area, just north of Sheffield City Centre, offering performance based youth work sessions, detached sessions around the local area, as well as programmes during school holidays and support for individual young people. One of the benefits they are looking to gain from the Charities Evening is some help in designing an updated logo.
"Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better." — Harry Truman
