Leadership Day 2011
Leadership Day 2011
All the ingredients were in place for another excellent Leadership Day: beautiful September weather, the welcoming venue of Paddington Arts, more than twenty-five enthusiastic School Fellows and provisions from the Lisboa Patisserie. In response to suggestions from the Fellows themselves, the day's programme was carefully refined to ensure that they had enough time to talk informally among themselves and to discuss such issues as how to keep in touch, how to develop a connection with a particular charity and how to use the many mentoring possibilities of the Fellowship.
Lindsay Fox, Chairman of the Rank Foundation, provided a clear explanation of the work and rationale of the Foundation in welcoming the School Fellows at the start of the day. Jason Chaffer's interview with Jeremy Wilson underlined how a hugely successful business career can be combined with a commitment to a local community, while Piers Mudd's responses to Seb Siersted's questions gave an insight into his career choices and challenges. Later in the day, Josh Horwood reported back from his early days on the Rank Gap Scheme with Centre 63, while Tasha Heny explored the various strands of Community Action Placements with the Fellows.
Eldora's dance session just before lunch was enjoyed greatly, as it always is, and Jan Carter's immaculate organisation made it a day that ran totally smoothly as well as enjoyably. In conclusion, Jason Chaffer closed the day with a characteristically thoughtful and effective summation.
The School Fellows who came responded very positively to the Day:
Overall, I really enjoyed myself and I thought the day was a great success. And the only real feedback I have is that I agreed with everything that was said.
It was such a help to hear from previous Fellows, and to hear what they have gone on to achieve and understand how they managed to do it and what qualities helped them.
I met some awesome and inspirational people
Thank you very much for a wonderful day. I had a lovely time getting to know my fellow award holders and also further discovering the numerous opportunities offered by the Rank Foundation! I really enjoyed the fact that we had speakers from contrasting professional backgrounds.
It was an amazing event and a great opportunity to meet some of the other Rank Fellows
