Minutes of the Steering Committee Meeting held on Tuesday 4th September 2007 at Spencer Stuart
| Present: - |
Jason Chaffer - Chairman |
| In Attendance: - | Tim Young and Gill Zammett |
| Apologies: - | Simon Barker, Lindsey Clay, Duncan Gibson, Max Kirby |
- The Chairman thanked all members for attending in the face of the current tube strike.
- The Minutes of the meeting held on the 5th June 2007 had been circulated to all members and the Chairman signed them as correct. There were no matters arising.
- Charities Team
Tim Young reported that Jason Chaffer's letter to all Fellows about the Charities Evening on the 7th November, plus the invitation card were being despatched from Warwick Square this week. Invitations have also been sent to all Rank Foundation Trustees and Executives. Seven charities which attended last year have been signed up and eight new charities will be attending this year. Information and invitations have been sent to all charities attending. It was felt that the charities’ precise requirements should be made very clear, both on the programme and at the individual stands in the Vaults. The speaker for the evening is Rank Fellow Tarka L'Herpiniere.
- Communications Team
David McCausland reported on a successful recent meeting with the team and some decisions were reached subject to formal ratification by the Steering Committee. Tim Young will contact Moore Wilson with regard to the format for the redesigned home page and Version II of the website will be launched a week before the Charities Evening. A short e-newsletter bulletin will also go out at this time. This bulletin will include a link to the new Home Page, and a new Leadership Page is planned for the website.
A Rank Fellowship Facebook group is being developed by Max Kirby and further information about progress will be given at the next meeting of the Steering Committee.
Alastair Rolfe asked if Tim Young could contact Moore Wilson about having the facility of putting audio/visual screening on the website and to seek advice about costing etc.
Missing Army - Andrew Cowen thought this exercise should now come to an end; Tim Young said that he gets occasional telephone calls from Fellows who have not been in contact for over a year. Continuing contact with school Development Offices may unearth inactive Fellows in the future.
- Mentoring Team
The programme for the Leadership Day on the 13th September is complete and sixteen pupils will be attending (one absentee due to hospitalisation). The programme is very varied with Fred Packard, Lindsey Clay, Benet Northcote, Tom Motchman and a Gapper from JUMP charity, Ethan Bernard, being the speakers. A bike assembly exercise and dancing provided by Paddington Arts complete the programme. Lunch will be provided by Mrs Lewis and Mrs Carter from Warwick Square. A full report on the event will, of course, be given at the next SC meeting in December.
Discussion took place as to whether to hold another Mentoring Evening as numbers over the years have fallen, with only 25 or so Fellows attending earlier this year. It was felt that a guest speaker as a focus to the evening would perhaps attract further interest and Tim Young will send out two or three new possible formats before the next SC meeting.
- Regional Meetings
Jason Chaffer thanked Fred Packard and Andrew Cowen for attending the events at Bolton and Sedbergh Schools in June. Both were very successful and worthwhile evenings.
Rank Fellow, James Williams, who is Programmes Manager at the Northern College of Music in Manchester is heading a working group to plan a northern Charities Evening in the autumn of 2008. James will be attending the RSA Charities Evening in London and this will be an opportunity for some discussion.
The Bath and Bristol area will be one which Tim Young will be checking out shortly - there are thirty or so active Fellows in this region. It was felt that a gathering could be planned for June 2008.
- Overseas Links
David McCausland will be meeting Thais Xavier, the Administrator of Fundação Estudar in San Paulo, in London on Friday 7th September. The Annual report of FE has been sent to various members of the Steering Committee.
Fred Packard will be entertaining two leading members of the London MagNet Society (Maghreb Network) to dinner on 15th October: there will be discussion about future links with the Fellowship.
Fred Packard and Tim Young will be visiting Qatar in February 2008 to discuss possible links with the Qatar Foundation and its leadership programmes. - Membership of the Steering Committee and future social gatherings
Jason Chaffer said there would be a Steering Committee stand in the Vaults at the Charities Evening, with a view to encouraging younger Fellows to come on to the Committee at some stage in the near future.
The 2008 summer social gatherings were still unplanned but hopefully further information will be available at the December meeting. Fred Packard and Jason Chaffer have both offered to host a summer event.
- Any other business
It was decided to ask Tom Motchman to be the mentor for the next cohort of Fellows and Tim Young will approach Tom about this task. Tom is coming to the Leadership Day so it will be a good opportunity for Tom to meet the new pupils.
- Date of next meeting:
Tuesday 4th December 2007, 6.30 pm at Spencer Stuart
- The meeting closed at 7.30 pm when supper was served.
